Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

Hush is built on a simple principle: your focus data is yours. We collect as little as possible, keep sensitive data on your device, and will never sell or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or other commercial purposes. This policy explains exactly what information is handled when you use the Hush app, beacon, or NFC cards.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information needed to provide the service. This falls into two categories:

Information that stays on your device

  • Your focus session history and duration logs
  • App block lists and focus mode configurations
  • Trigger schedules and automation rules you create
  • Leaderboard display name (stored locally, synced anonymously)

Information transmitted to our servers

  • Anonymous crash reports and diagnostic logs to help us identify and fix bugs. These contain no personally identifiable information.
  • Aggregate, anonymized session counts used for the public leaderboard feature, if you opt in. Your identity is never associated with these counts.

2. Bluetooth and Beacon Data

The Hush Beacon communicates with your iPhone via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). All proximity detection and ranging happens entirely on your device. We never upload Bluetooth scan results, beacon identifiers, signal strength readings, or location inferences derived from beacon proximity to our servers. This data is processed locally and discarded after triggering focus mode. The Hush app does not request precise or approximate location permission from iOS.

3. NFC Card Data

NFC card scans are handled entirely on-device through Apple's Core NFC framework. The identifier written to each card is read locally to trigger a focus mode change. No NFC scan events, card identifiers, or tap timestamps are transmitted to or stored on our servers.

4. App Usage Data

Hush uses Apple's Screen Time framework to enforce app restrictions. The list of apps you choose to block and the time you spend in focus sessions is stored in iCloud's private encrypted storage if you have iCloud backup enabled for the app. This data is covered by Apple's privacy policies and is not accessible to us. We do not independently log, analyze, or transmit which specific apps you block.

5. Analytics

We use anonymous crash reporting (currently via Apple's built-in crash reporting infrastructure) to understand stability issues. These reports contain device model, iOS version, app version, and a stack trace. They contain no personal identifiers, no names, no email addresses, and no usage history. We do not use third-party behavioral analytics SDKs.

6. Third-Party Services

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising. We work with a small number of infrastructure providers:

  • Apple — for App Store distribution, in-app purchases, and iCloud backup. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Supabase — our backend database, used only for anonymous leaderboard data if you opt in. No personal data is stored.
  • Shopify — for hardware purchases on the Hush website. Payment and shipping data is handled directly by Shopify and is not shared with Hush beyond order fulfillment.

7. Data Retention

Because the vast majority of your data never leaves your device, you control its retention directly through iOS. Deleting the Hush app removes all locally stored focus history and configuration. Anonymous crash reports are retained for up to 90 days to aid in debugging, then permanently deleted.

8. Children's Privacy

Hush is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@hush.app and we will delete that information promptly. In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children.

9. Your Rights

Since we collect minimal personal data, there is little to request or delete. If you have opted into the leaderboard and want your anonymous count removed, you can turn off the feature in app settings, which stops any further data contributions. For any privacy-related requests or questions, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, notify you through an in-app notice or email if we have your contact information.
